A preferred proponent has been announced for the delivery of a major South Australian infrastructure project slated to transform Adelaide’s transport network.
Woods Bagot, Modus Forma, Tract Consultants and Karl Winda Telfa (Burka Senior Man, Mullawirra Kaurna Meyunna) are leading the architecture, urban design and landscape as part of the preferred consortium led by John Holland Group with Boygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia for the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project.
T2D is a 10.5-kilometre section of motorway of the wider 78-kilometre Adelaide North-South Corridor project. As the final section of the corridor, T2D represents the largest road project South Australia has ever undertaken.
Once completed, T2D will enable motorists to bypass 21 sets of traffic lights between River Torrens and Darlington, radically reducing travel time during peak-hour traffic, completing the non-stop 78-kilometre North-South Corridor between Galwer and Old Noarlunga.
The motorway will improve safety and travel times, providing urban renewal opportunities for local businesses through upgraded walking and cycle paths and green spaces.
The consortium draws on collective global expertise and experience of the alliance partners in areas of transport solutions, urban design, landscape, architecture and construction.
While major road projects have often divided neighbourhoods, the alliance’s solution imagines the project as more than a motorway, integrating positive urban design outcomes along its length to make travel faster and safer, while preserving the things that make Adelaide’s local communities thrive.
The alliance said it is proud of this design outcome and looks forward to delivering the positive community outcomes that come with it.
Alongside improvements to the transport network, the T2D project will deliver a range of social and economic benefits to South Australia, enhancing the state’s connectivity, creating over 5,500 new jobs, and providing upskilling for local industry, building construction capabilities.
